"Beneath the Dark Blue Waves" for Saxophone and Live Laptop Computer with live digital art was performed by Dr. Todd Oxford, Alto Saxophone and Richard, Laptop Computer and live digital art, at the College Music Society’s Sixty-Third National Conference, held in conjunction with the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI), the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors (NACWPI), and Pi Kappa Lambda (PKL) National Conference. Afterwards, a lecture was given focusing on the performance techniques and technical aspects of the live electronics. The conference was scheduled to be held in Miami but was changed to virtual.

Richard D. Hall was commissioned to compopose music for the screen dance work "Holding Pattern." It was a collaborative work between Hall ands Texas State University dance choreographers Michelle Nance & Kaysie Sietz-Brown and Texas State University dance video-choreographer Ana Baer. The work was premired at the Opening Door Dance Theatre's "A Virtual Homecoming," a virtual, online dance performance featuring dancers, choreographers and filmmakers from all over the country.

Richard D. Hall and Dr. Todd Oxford were guest lecturers for the Texas State University Arts and Lecture Series. The lecture took place at the Round Rock Campus and featured Oxford, alto saxophone, and Hall, live electronics and digital-video, performing "Desert Waves, Wilderness of Water" and "Beneath the Dark Blue Waves." Afterwards, a lecture was given, explaining the collaborative process and performances techniques used in the works.

Richard D. Hall directed the Texas State Mysterium for New Music Ensemble as the featured ensemble for the University of Texas at San Antonio MuTeFest (Music Technology Conference). Works performed included original student pieces, structured improvisational works and video game music. Richard also gave a workshop on the " Aesthetics and Techniques of Live Electronic Music Performance," a performance/lecture demonstrating the various techniques of performing live electro-acoustic music with live digital video art.

The work was inspired by the many aspects of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, TX, as well as using musical elements from Bach's Cello Suite No. 3. The work was written for Dr. Karla Hamelin, Professor of Cello at Texas State University. The was premiered at Dr. Hamelin’s Faculty Recital at Texas State University, with Hamelin on cello and Richard on live electronics and digital-video.
