"Being Together" was selected into the COCO Dance Festival Online 2021 based in Port of Spain, Trinidad. "Being Together" was a collaborative work between Texas State University Dance video-choreographer Ana Baer, the Texas State University Merge Dance Company and the Body Shift Collective, an Austin, TX, based dance company specializing in mixed-ability improvisational dance. The Texas State Mysterium for New Music Ensemble recently performed in Rochester, NY, at the College Music Society’s (CMS) Sixty-Fourth Annual National Conference in association with the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI).

The performance titled “Beautiful Sounds,” was a laptop septet soundscape celebrating the sight and sounds of the San Marcos River. The work was composed and realized by all members of the ensemble and consisted of sectionalized, structured improvisations utilizing recorded sound-samples taken from the San Marcos River. These samples were performed via real-time manipulations on certain parameters with real-time controlled digital video art. Ensemble members included senior Luke Frost and graduate students Stephen Adkisson, Stephan Arce-Penedo, Adam Koch, Ella Pedrozo, and Thomas Torres. The ensemble is directed by Senior Lecturer of Music Richard D. Hall.

"THULE" was a collaborative work between German dancer/choreographer Heike Salzer and Texas State University dance video-choreographer Ana Baer. Richard D. Hall was one of the featured composers for film. The festival is based in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Texas State Mysterium for New Music Ensemble released an album, "Sonic Observations, music inspired by the sciences." Each member of the ensemble wrote a piece of music while all memebers contributed to perrforming/recording tracks for each piece. Composers/ performers were Andi Ivins, Thomas Torres, Adam Koch, Luke Frost, Jared E. Davis, and director of the ensemble Richard D. Hall. Mastering was completed by Wesley S. Uchiyama-Penix.

"Being Together" was selected into the Poetics of Aging, a weekend of performance and conversation initiated by Jimena Bermejo. The panel discussions and performances featured dance artists whose current research situates itself in relation to the topic of aging. Mysterium recently performed at the Classic Game Fest in Austin, TX, which is considered “the biggest retro gaming event in Texas,” with an estimated attendance of over 7000. The ensemble performed music from several well know video games including Sonic, Undertale, Zelda, Castelvania, Star Fox, and Donkey Country as well as several structured improvisations. All pieces were arranged by current and former students of the ensemble. Members of the ensemble were graduate students Adam Koch, Thomas Torres, Andi Ivins, Jared Davis, guest Andrew Coldwell and graduate alumni Wesley S. Uchiyama-Penix (2020). The ensemble was even featured on the Austin Chronicle website. The Mysterium ensemble is under the direction of Senior Lecturer of Music Richard D. Hall.

"The Way We Are in Space" was selected to the QUARANTINE EXHIBITION of the Hibrido Brazilian Videodance Festival that was hosted exclusively on Instagram @hibridofest. The work was directed by Ana Baer with choreography and dancing by Michelle Nance, Kaysie Seitz Brown, and Nicole Wesley. It was produced by Baer Productions and descibed as "Fashion in the times of COVID-19." Richard D. Hall composed music for the film.

Richard D. Hall was sound engineer for the SemillaFest in San Marcos, TX, featuring performances by Theatre students and Merge Dance Company. The festival celebrated the artistic voices of traditionally underrepresented peoples from the African, Hispanic, and Latin American diasporas. The two-day festival was performed at the City Plaza Outdoor stage. During the festival, Richard collaborated on a soundscape for actress Nadine Mozon, wrote and performed live music for a dance piece by Ana Baer and composed original music for guests Claudia Fragoso and Rocio Luna from Morelia, Mexico. This festival was funded by the Texas State University College of Fine Arts and Communication, the Department of Theatre and Dance, and the City of San Marcos Arts Commission.

Richard D. Hall created and performed the music for the dance piece “ToMAYto/ ToMAHto” in the Austin Dance Festival at Pioneer Farms in Austin, TX. The work was a collaboration between Richard and dancers/choreographers Michelle Nance, director of Texas State University Dance program and Catherine Solaas, Department Chair for Dance at Austin Community College. The music consisted of Mandolin and Live Electronics.

"Lady Bird Suite" for Cello, live electronics and live digital-video was presented at the National Association of Composers USA Texas Chapter's "New Music Virtual Festival," hosted in Dallas, TX. The work was inspired by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, TX, as well as using musical elements from Bach's Cello Suite No. 3. The work was written for Dr. Karla Hamelin, Professor of Cello at Texas State University. The presentation featured a recording with Dr. Hamelin on cello and Richard on live electronics and digital-video.

As part of Texas State Univerity’s transatlantic cooperation with the University in Mainz, Germany, Richard Hall gave a lecture titled: “(Digital) Artistic Collaborations and Writing Music for Film and Screen Dance Projects.”

Abstract: "Richard D. Hall will give a workshop on several of his compositional processes and experiences, including writing music for film & screen dance projects, collaborating with other artists, incorporating various styles of music & combining these styles (merging genres), utilizing music hardware & software when creating new works, and mixing & recording techniques when composing music (using electronic sounds to support/enhance recorded acoustic instruments)."

The lecture was given vai Zoom with participoants from Texas State University and Mainz, Germany.

Richard D. Hall was a featured performer on the Austin Ableton SXSW Music Showcase sponsored by Ableton Live Music Software on Saturday, March 20th. The virtual performance featured around a dozen national and international performers/artists from Los Angeles, Denver, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Brooklyn, Chicago, Austin, and Copenhagen.

Richard D. Hall was asked to write a chapter for the book "Dance and Philosophy," published by Bloomsbury Publishing, London. Out of the 38 authors, only one other author is associated with music and Hall is the only musician/composer to contribute. The chapter “Discovering Collaboration in Dance,” discusses Hall’s various experiences performing and composing music for choreographers, dancers and screen-dance projects. Hall has composed music for over 30 different dance and screen-dance works that have been performed in over 20 different countries. He has also performed as soloist or directing the Texas State Mysterium for New Music Ensemble for over 100 dance performances. The book was released on February 11, 2021.
